A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of three upright red broad arrows, the center one larger, the blades overlapping the others and all blades coinciding horizontally, dividing a blue area above and a green area in base, all below two twenty degree ovals chevronwise and joining at the top, each divided lengthwise nebuly blue and white; all above a gold scroll touching the lower edge of the outer blades, passing under the shaft of the one in the center and inscribed, SAFEGUARD OF DEMOCRACY in black letters.
An arrowhead is symbolic of leadership and the three refer to the organization and the commands three basic areas of responsibility. Arrowheads are also representative of efficiency and martial readiness, and are thus most indicative of the commands overall mission and capabilities. The color red denotes fire and energy and the color green is associated with safety; the oval, nebuly and the blue color refer to the sky; together they represent all sophisticated weaponry, electronic technology, complex security and constant skywatch.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 1 May 1975.
